Bicycle Maintainence

Bicycle recycling is a popular department with service users and qualified volunteers. Recovered, unclaimed, stolen or unwanted bikes are donated by Northumbria Police and members of the public. All bikes are repaired and sold at reasonable prices through our Gumtree and eBay stores.

We also provide a servicing and general bike maintenance service from our workshop and sometimes at pop-up locations around the North Tyneside area. Training to service users is provided in: puncture repairs, wheel refitting, wheel truing, brake assembly, hub bearings, gear assembly and much more.

We regularly list refurbished bikes for sale on our Gumtree page, click the button to see our current listings!

The Key Charity Foundation for Kids: Extending our bike department into The Gambia

When a Gambian support worker brought a service user to Key Enterprises in the summer of 2018, no one imagined that it would be the start of an incredible partnership that would change the lives of hundreds of children in The Gambia.

Lamin, a support worker, brought a service user to K|E and noticed that there was a surplus of children’s bikes. He wondered if he might be able to buy them cheaply to ship over to Gambia where he was aware that many children in rural communities struggle to get to school due to the arduous travel on foot. Key Enterprises thought this was a fantastic idea and agreed to supply the recycled bikes at no cost. This started the ball rolling and before long Key Charity Foundation for Kids was created. Based in Gambia, they ensure the donated bikes get to where they’re needed most by building links with rural schools and setting up school-run bike loan schemes.

The Key Charity Foundation have been delivering batches of refurbished bikes since 2018.

Lamin found a friendly shipper, Mbye, who was willing to fit 10 bikes a month into one of his containers free of charge and K|E partnered with local charity Recyke y’ bike to collect donated bikes before carrying out safety checks and delivering them to Mbye. And so regular deliveries of bikes started arriving in Gambia and being taken to rural schools. Key Enterprises’ bike maintenance supervisor Steve and his partner went to Gambia on holiday to meet with the trustees of KCF and also visited the first school, to hear first hand the valuable difference the bikes are making to the lives of students.

Key Enterprises have a large supply of refurbished bikes available for sale to the public; serviced and fully guaranteed.
